Fire Marshal Training

The mission of the Fire Marshal Training Section of the Office of State Fire Marshal is to provide specialized training for local, regional, and state fire marshals and fire inspectors. Training in basic fire inspection principles and practices is designed to give individuals with little or no experience in fire inspection an overview of their responsibilities. The State Fire Marshal Certification program trains students in the information needed to successfully become a S.C. Certified Fire Marshal. In addition, the Fire Marshal Training Section coordinates and delivers the NFPA Certified Fire Inspector I, Certified Fire Inspector II, and Certified Fire Plan Examiner programs. These programs are recognized in all 50 states and in several countries around the world. A course is currently under development for training fire company officers to perform fire and life safety inspections in their jurisdictions. Plans are underway to establish certification training programs using the International Fire Code and International Building Code that are currently adopted for use in South Carolina.
