Drivers' Licenses
Section 41 – 8 – 20 (B)(2)(c) of the "South Carolina Illegal Immigration Reform Act" requires that the Executive Director of the Department of Motor Vehicles determine which states have drivers license requirements that are at least as strict as those in South Carolina. He must provide a copy of the list to the Director of the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (LLR) and periodically update the list. The Director of LLR must publish the list on the agency's Web site by January 1, 2009.
The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles has determined that drivers’ licenses or identification cards issued by the following states are acceptable:
- Alaska
- Arizona
- Connecticut
- Delaware
- Florida
- Georgia
- Idaho
- Indiana
- Kansas
- Kentucky
- Maine (credentials issued after 11/15/08)
- Maryland
- Massachusetts
- Michigan
- Missouri
- Montana
- New Hampshire
- New Jersey
- North Carolina
- Pennsylvania
- Rhode Island
- Tennessee
- Texas
- Virginia
- West Virginia
- Wisconsin
