ATTENTION – HAIR BRAIDERS:
Renewal Time is Here!
Current South Carolina hair braider registrations will expire at 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2018. Courtesy reminders will be mailed in April to the address that the Board has on file. If registrations are not renewed before July 1, 2018, they are considered expired and the reinstatement process must be completed in order for you to continue to provide hair braiding services. It is unlawful to practice without a current registration.
To avoid a delay in hair braiding services, please ensure that you have a valid e-mail address on file with the Board office as you will need it to access the online renewal. Passwords will not be printed on the courtesy renewal notices. If you need to update your email address, please contact BoardInfo@LLR.SC.GOV (ensure that you supply your name, date of birth and massage license number for easier identification). Once the e-mail address is updated, you will receive a link to reset your password.
REMINDERS:
Name Changes - In order to avoid a delay in processing your online renewal, please submit name change requests along with a copy of your legal documentation (marriage license, divorce decree) to BoardInfo@LLR.SC.GOV.
Barber Board Inspectors will be conducting random checks of permit records for barber school and on-the-job training students. Please make sure that your records are in compliance.
Per S.C. Code of Law 40-1-70 Section 2a, Powers and Duties of Boards of Professions and Occupations Regulations, the S.C. Board of Barber Examiners voted unanimously at its April 8, 2013, meeting to reinstate the "straight razor shave" as a part of the practical examination phase of testing for all examining applicants for licensure, including Registered Barbers and Master Hair Care Specialist. This will be effective January 1, 2014.
Straight razor blades will be required during testing.
At its February 23, 2015 meeting, the Board voted for the live shave to be untimed and they reaffirmed that straight razor blades will be required during testing as hair removal is a necessary component of a live shave. The Board requires all barber/master haircare applicants to demonstrate each technique of a live shave during the practical examination.
