  • *** Special Notice for SC Licensed Engineers ***

Both the Governor and the President have declared South Carolina a disaster. The next stage of recovery is inspection and evaluation of infrastructure and vertical structures. The need for volunteers is high. You are needed. Moreover, engineers have always been known for their enthusiasm to help when needed.
Therefore, the headquarters of the American Council of Engineering Companies of South Carolina and the South Carolina Society of Professional Engineers is coordinating volunteer activities for registered engineers in this state.
In 2012, a state law was passed giving South Carolina licensed engineers immunity from professional liability when volunteering after a declared disaster. However, understand unless you are covered under the SC Guard or some written agreement with a political subdivision, you DO NOT have Workers’ Compensation coverage unless your employer agrees to cover you.
There is another route for Workers’ Compensation coverage. You may join the SC Guard immediately upon being selected as a volunteer, given an assignment and be covered by the Guard’s Workers’ Compensation policy. You must be sworn into the SC Guard to be covered. I’ve attached a SC Guard form to be completed if you plan to go under the Guard’s Workers’ Compensation umbrella. You will be assigned to the Guard’s Ready Reserve component.
You are strongly encouraged to take heed to this warning concerning Workers’ Compensation. Ask your employer if you are covered by the company’s Workers Compensation policy while volunteering if you do not plan to join the SC Guard. If you are not covered, consider the consequences to you and your family.
We need this information: your full name, an email address, a phone number (cell), your specialty and the completed SC Guard form. We will forward your information to the SC Emergency Management Division and SC Guard.

If you wish to volunteer please contact one of the emails below.
