South Carolina Building Codes Council

South Carolina a Leader in Building Code Ranking!

South Carolina Building Codes have been ranked the third highest by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety.

IBHS CEO Julie Rochman, “When buildings are stronger and more resilient, property damage is greatly reduced, home and business owners are able to recover faster, the local economy and tax base are maintained and the amount of government disaster aid is reduced.”

The IBHS report was presented at the National Hurricane Conference Wednesday, April 1, in Austin Texas. South Carolina Building Codes scored a 92 just behind Florida at 94 and Virginia with 95.

North Carolina came in 7th and Georgia 11th in the ratings of all hurricane prone states.

This is a reflection upon efforts put forth by each of our code officials in South Carolina to maintain the integrity of our adoption, implementation and enforcement of the building codes processes.
